{"id":155,"date":"2016-05-03T08:29:32","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T06:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ugt.saske.sk\/en\/?page_id=155"},"modified":"2016-05-23T10:17:48","modified_gmt":"2016-05-23T08:17:48","slug":"department-of-mineral-biotechnologies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ugt.saske.sk\/en\/about-us\/structure\/departments\/department-of-mineral-biotechnologies\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Mineral Biotechnologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Head of the department:<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sav.sk\/index.php?lang=sk&amp;doc=user-org-user&amp;user_no=4795\"> MVDr. Daniel Kupka, PhD.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>RESEARCH FOCUS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Research in the department is focused on the biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology and environmental biotechnology.<\/p>\n<p>Research in <b>biogeochemistry<\/b> and <b>geomicrobiology<\/b> is focused\u00a0on the investigation of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>biogeochemical processes in the upper part of the Earth geosphere in connection with mineral weathering and global cycle of the elements,<\/li>\n<li>microbial interactions with inorganic and organic components of the rock environment in the mineral transformation processes in mineral deposits and mine and industrial waste repositories,<\/li>\n<li>paragenesis of secondary mineral structures,<\/li>\n<li>biodegradation of natural and synthetic materials,<\/li>\n<li>biodiversity of various natural matrices (soil, water, sediments).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Research in the field of <b>environmental biotechnology<\/b> is focused on the development and application of biotechnology methods for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mineral processing and waste recycling,<\/li>\n<li>improving the quality of raw materials for ceramic and glass industry,<\/li>\n<li>remediation of old environmental burdens and sites contaminated by antropogenic activities,<\/li>\n<li>synthesis of advanced (bio)materials and bio-composites for selective recovery of usable components from solid and liquid municipal and industrial wastes,<\/li>\n<li>prediction and prevention of bio-corrosion of construction composite materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Research program in the field of mineral biotechnologies at the Institute of Geotechnics SAS was founded by Prof. Dr.h.c. Ing. Franti\u0161ek \u0160paldon, DrSc. in 1985. In 1992, a detached Department of Mineral Biotechnologies was established and led by assoc. prof. Ing. M\u00e1ria Ku\u0161nierov\u00e1, PhD.
